Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho is slowly growing into the next big thing in England. He had a stellar campaign with the Reds recently and sported the captain’s armband for Brazil’s friendly over Australia recently. With so much potential to show for, he is slowly attracting interests from some of the best clubs in Europe with Catalan giants Barcelona are reportedly interested in breaking the bank to land him this summer.
The 25-year old, who celebrated his birthday this month, signed a new contract with Liverpool at the start of the year but is extensively linked with a move to Camp Nou. He has time and again revealed that he is happy at Liverpool and in a recent interview in Australia, he assured the Liverpool fans that he was not going to quit anytime soon.
He did not say the exact words but was quick to play down any rumours linking him with Barcelona, admitting that it is not as easy as it seems for him to make the switch. It is widely regarded that Coutinho wants to be the main man for Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp, just as they look to get back to their best, rather than find a place on the bench at the Camp Nou.
Playing alongside the likes of Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, to add to his reunion with childhood buddy Neymar Jr, could be too tempting an offer to turn down for Coutinho but he wants to establish himself as one of the best in Europe at Anfield, before moving on to a bigger club. But can he realise his potential in England?
Having qualified for the Champions League for just the second time in more than seven years, Liverpool are certainly a club on the rise. Their new manager Jurgen Klopp has already made an impact on the squad and if he can get the right players to Anfield this summer, the Reds are genuine contenders for the title in England.
They need some balance in the squad to compete for the Champions League and though they may not be good enough to go all the way, in a year or two, Liverpool are sure to turn into a European giant. Coutinho can be the talisman of such a club and as promised by Klopp, winning some silverware for Liverpool might even see him get his own statue outside Anfield.
The Liverpool supporters are passionate and have already made Coutinho their king and if he decides to stay at the club, he could easily turn into the next superstar in Europe. He will get a chance to do the same at Barcelona, but there is every chance he could fade away, so he should be happy with the progress in England and not look for a move anytime soon.
