Liverpool managed to secure Champions League football on the final day of the season but they are in no mood to leave it late in their transfer dealings this summer. While reports suggest that the Reds are closing in on the signatures of Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah, Klopp is not looking to calm down anytime soon.
He is still looking for further additions and is now reportedly set to approach French outfit AS Lyon for their star striker Alexandre Lacazette. The French international is one of the most productive finishers in Europe over the last couple of seasons and is finally ready to move out of his home country.
Spanish outfit Atletico Madrid were reportedly close to landing him but the transfer ban on the club has seen Lacazette back in the market.
A genuine striker, the kind Liverpool desperately lack at the moment, Lacazette has 37 goals to his name in all competitions this season in France. Liverpool do have Daniel Sturridge, who may actually be as good a finisher as Lacazette but the English international has now missed more games than he has played for the club in the last three season, thanks to a variety of injuries.
Divock Origi is still young and Danny Ings is all but a new signing for Klopp. So Liverpool will need a striker who can lead that attack in the Champions League and there are very few options better than Lacazette available in the current transfer market.
Strong in the air and deadly with his finishing, Lacazette will help Liverpool add a different dimension to their attack. They can have a target man who can break teams who like to sit back and defend and against top teams, he can add an extra goal scoring threat.
Roberto Firmino has done a decent job and could keep his place next season, to help Liverpool repeat their chemistry from the last campaign but if Klopp has decided to spend so much on Salah and Van Dijk, he may as well want to upgrade on his striking options and might also look to spend on Lacazette.
At 26, he is in his prime as a footballer and is made for the highest stage. Klopp will surely get the best out of him but unless he decides to sell one of Ings, Origi or Sturridge, it is hard to see the Reds spend insanely on yet another striker. Do you think Lacazette is a necessity for Liverpool?
