Leicester City were nowhere near the form they showed the season prior to the last term when they were crowned the Champions of the Premier League for the first time in their history. They were into the danger zone for a chunk of the last season as it became impossible for them to make a way back into the top half of the league table.
However, the Foxes showed great character in the latter half of the season under their new manager Craig Shakespeare who replaced Claudio Ranieri after the Italian was sacked owing to the team’s dismal performances under him, and bounced back to end the season on 12th position in the League table.
The Foxes are now looking to continue building on the undying attitude they showed in the latter half of the last season and are looking to bring in players who can help them make the next season a successful one imparting better results. One such player who has been eyed to be brought into their side in the new season is the Portuguese midfielder Adrien Silva, currently playing for Sporting Lisbon in the Portuguese Primeira Liga.
There were speculations regarding the 28-year-old joining the former Premier League champions in the last season, however, the move fell through due to certain problems. This time around, though, it seems quite certain for the wily midfielder who is currently on international duty with Portugal at the Confederations Cup in Russia, to join the Foxes for the next season.
Reportedly, the midfielder has a release clause amounting to £39.5 million, but he is allowed to leave to any party who are ready to pay the Portuguese club £26 million for him. The Portuguese club are willing to let go of their captain in the summer who is ready to play in the Premier League in the next season.
Tottenham have also been much interested in the 28-year-old midfielder, who has been one of the mainstays for his Portuguese club so far and have shown a significant amount of interest in bringing the player into the club for the next season. In fact, it was the Spurs this summer who looked much more interested than the Foxes in bringing Silva to their club and had also initiated talks regarding the transfer with a primary bid of £17.5 million.
Adrien Silva has been known for his great leadership skills as well as the ability to play as a team man throughout his career and he will look to keep up his good work in the future as well.
