Leeds United have signed Hadi Sacko on a permanent basis from Sporting Lisbon. The winger spent the season on loan at Elland Road and his impressive performance has led to Leeds United making the deal permanent. The English club had to shell out as little as £2m to rope in the player. This is the first transfer for the Whites in the new season after failing to make it to the playoffs last season. Andrea Radrizzani recently completed a full takeover of the Yorkshire club and this is his first major step for the Whites.
Sacko did have a £51m release clause in his contract but the contract also had a clause to sign him permanently and Leeds United triggered that option. Sacko showed his potential in the Championship as he scored two goals and assisted another four in what was a lacklustre campaign for the player. Despite having a strong season almost throughout the end, the Leeds campaign failed to get to the desired destination as a number of meaningless defeats harrowed their chances.
Sacko stated in 28 games in the Championship and has been fairly decent in some of the games. His acceleration and ability to make a quick decision made him one of the most sought after players and being only 23 years of age, there is much more to come if he is nurtured delicately.
Leeds United are yet to appoint manager after the resignation of Garry Monk. Names of Aitor Karanka has been doing the rounds although these are just rumours and the club are yet to finalise their manager. Whoever arrives though, Sacko would be a delight to work with.
Sacko expressed his happiness after signing the deal. “I’m very happy now, I’ve got an objective, I have come here to play and I am very excited about starting these three years with Leeds.
“The club offering me this deal is very good for my confidence and I am really looking forward to getting started again.”
Sakho has been brilliant in the first half of the season but his sharpness relatively reduced in the second half due to various injuries. He has signed on the dotted line for a three-year contract which will keep him at the Elland Road until 2020.
