Leeds United have made the first signing of the Thomas Christiansen era as they have acquired the services of FC Twente midfielder Mateusz Klich. The details of the deal are yet to be disclosed but it is understood that player has put pen to paper on a three-year contract.
Klich’s name has been hovering around for the past few days as Leeds were negotiating a move for him. The sudden resignation of Garry Monk gave the Leeds hierarchy a very tough time but they have started to make things fall in place.
Monk’s managerial sense impressed the Leeds authorities and they were ready to tie up the gaffer to a long term contract. But before they could make a move, the young manager decided to end his fruitful association with the Yorkshire club.
The recent takeover by Andrea Radrizzani has re-energised the club and given it more vigour as the new owner has promised to infuse necessary funds to bring back the club’s deserved status. Leeds United were agonisingly close this year but a drastic collapse in the season run-in put paid to the hopes of a playoff spot.
Klich has won accolades for his performance in the Eredivisie despite the fact that his team have done nothing extraordinary in this season.
The Polish international came through the ranks of Cracovia Kraków and had a number of stints at various clubs in Germany and Holland. The midfielder was a regular for FC Twente last season and will be vying for a place in the Leeds midfield. He is expected to report at the Elland Road before the pre-season kick starts.
Klich is more of an attack-minded midfielder and has been brought to the club to provide some competition to Pablo Hernandez. The Spanish veteran is known for his creativity but in the last season, he wasn’t able to create that magic during the crunch time as Leeds fell behind in the promotion race.
Klich will be handed a role in the midfield and his passing will be something to watch out for. Klich expressed his happiness after signing in favour of the Yorkshire giants. “I am very happy to have signed for such a huge club and I’m looking forward to playing in the famous white shirt. “
The towering midfielder will be Leeds second signing after the Whites secured a permanent deal for winger Hadi Sacko from Sporting Lisbon earlier.
