Leeds United are leading the race to sign FC Twente midfielder Mateusz Klich. The Yorkshire club are set to increase their offer after seeing their first offer rejected by the Dutch club.
Thomas Christiansen has been appointed as the new manager of the Yorkshire based club after the departure of Garry Monk. Monk was expected to extend his stay as club owner Andrea Radrizzani was very keen to exercise the one-year clause in his contract but to everyone’s surprise, the 38-year-old English submitted his resignation from the post of the manager after the last season.
Leeds have been linked with a number of players as they are trying to get into shape ahead of the next season. The club showed promise this season as they came very close to securing a promotion to the English Premier League but their form in the last few matches saw them finishing just outside the top six.
However, owner Radrizzani is ready to back his new manager with sufficient funds in the transfer market. Klich has long been linked with the Championship club since the time of Monk and it seems the club is trying his best to bring the player to the Elland Road.
Klich arrived from Kaiserslautern and has been an important player for Twente. He has netted six goals and racked up four assists in the recently concluded season. Klich, who is also the captain of the Dutch club, could be the first signing of the recently appointed manager.
Monk led Leeds competently in the last season but the Whites need to rectify some of their problems and the midfield is one of them. Chris Wood has been very prolific in front of the goal but the other players have failed to respond in the same way.
Pablo Hernandez has been likened to David Silva of Manchester City as they both possess a similar style of play. The 32-year-old attacking midfielder hasn’t been in his best form this term and Christiansen would be hoping to add a significant presence in the midfield to act as the catalyst for his side’s attacks. Hernandez’s creativity is one of the best in the business but his inconsistency in the middle of the pitch could be a problem for the Whites.
Leeds are expected to battle for the promotion next season as they gear up for the new challenge and if they can execute most of their plans to perfection, they are in for a positive start to the long and arduous campaign in front of them.
