Manchester City youngster Bersant Celina has been linked with Leeds United. The Championship side missed another chance to secure a promotion as they have failed to earn a place in the Playoffs. However, the Yorkshire club will be looking forward to rectifying the mistakes of last season and would be hoping to be back with a bang in the next campaign.
Celina had a very exciting loan spell at FC Twente. He guided the team to a decent seventh place finish with five goals and five assists in his tally. Despite impressing in the Eredivisie he is unlikely to get a chance in Pep Guardiola’s system as the Spaniard gaffer already has his hands full of attacking options.
The Kosovo international wouldn’t mind playing in the second division as any club who would offer him first team game time would be his preferred choice. Manchester City have kept in touch with all their players monitoring separately each player by judging them on the basis of their development.
Celina knows it would be difficult to break into the City starting lineup as of now so he needs to keep on playing to develop his skills. The player whose idol is City playmaker David Silva can have the chance to play alongside Pablo Hernandez at the Elland Road who has been Silva’s teammate when he was at Valencia.
Kosovo was not in the international fray until FIFA’s intervention in 2014. Against Haiti, Kosovo got engaged in their first international friendly. Ironically Celina was born in Kosovo but was brought up in Norway. He also started his international career with the nation but later he changed his allegiance to his birth nation Kosovo.
Predominantly the youngster is a typical no.10 but is equally efficient on the wings. Celina has pace and loves to take on defenders. Gifted with a brilliant technique, Selina could be a future asset for the Whites.
Pep wouldn’t mind letting him go on loan as a permanent deal is not possible for a player who signed a new three-year contract last year. Leeds appointed Thomas Christiansen as their new manager and he would be looking for new talents to match his vision.
The prospect of Celina combining with Hernandez is very promising and with a striker like Chris Wood upfront, the Whites can create havoc in the Championship. Leeds will have to make contact with the Manchester club and there shouldn’t be any problem in sealing this transfer.
