Everton are confident of reaching an agreement with Lyon for the transfer of Rachid Ghezzal. The player’s contract is about to end and the Toffees remain in touch with the player’s representative over a possible deal.
The Toffees have been very active in the transfer market and have already spent a significant amount of the allotted transfer fund in bringing Jordan Pickford from Sunderland and Davy Klaassen from Ajax.
Ronald Koeman is expected to add a few more players as a part of his squad rebuilding exercise. The Algerian international has been in Koeman’s plans for a long time. The Dutch gaffer had two offers turned down back in 2016 but he is determined to entice the player to Goodison Park.
Everton are destined to lose Gerard Deulofeu as Barcelona are expected to exercise their buyback clause in the near future. Deulofeu was clearly struggling at the Merseyside club but he came out to be a completely different player at the San Siro as Everton had sent the player on loan to AC Milan.
The 23-year-old has three goals under his belt alongside racking up three assists in 17 Serie-A appearances for Milan. Milan were looking to reach a permanent deal for the Spanish winger but it is now looking very doubtful.
If Everton do sell the player, a player of the same quality would be needed and Ghezzal could emerge as the player that Koeman has been looking for. Ghezzal’s contract is due to end once this season ends officially but Lyon have been trying to keep the player by offering him improved terms.
But his relationship with the club has been very shaky and Everton are ready to jump at this opportunity by bringing him to the English Premier League. Lyon wouldn’t be able to match Everton’s financial terms but still, there is an outside chance that the player might reconsider his future.
AS Roma have emerged as the newest entrants as they have joined the Toffees in the chase for the much-hyped winger. Mohamed Salah has sealed his move to Liverpool and Roma will have a big gap to fill.
Ghezzal hasn’t been able to hit the right notes this season but still, Everton are ready to put their bet on him. Also, the unavailability of Yannick Bolasie has forced Koeman to look out for an alternative winger.
Ghezzal could revive his career in the Premier League as the past two seasons hasn’t been that good for the Algerian international.
