After securing the services of Romelu Lukaku, Chelsea now are ready to raid Everton once again. Antonio Conte wants to add a bombastic midfielder to the side and has identified Idrissa Gueye as a potential target. The Toffees midfielder has just finished an excellent outing with the Merseyside club.
Having arrived from Aston Villa last season, the Senegalese midfielder has created a sensation in the Premier League. He has been a regular in Ronald Koeman’s starting lineup as he notched up 33 appearances in the Premier League.
Chelsea already have N’Golo Kante in the side who has been very effective for the English Champions but Antonio Conte wants to add substantial reinforcements to the side for the next season. Chelsea will have to play a rigorous season with Premier League and Champions League scheduled to take place simultaneously.
Everton have a number of players who are ready to move from the Goodison Park but they surely cannot afford to lose this player. He is still very much in Koeman’s plan and the Dutch gaffer wants to build the team surrounding him. Everton are also due to compete in the Europa League and the idea of losing him simply makes no sense.
Everton have told the West London side that they have to find an alternative for the player as he is not for sale at any cost. Gueye boasts a similar style to that of Kante. He is a tireless midfielder who roams around the pitch to take control of the game.
He also has a higher work rate than other Premier League midfielders and also contributes largely to the defensive side of the team. One of the best tacklers in the Premier League, he has an average 4.1 tackles per match in the Premier League. His statistics are very encouraging and naturally, a coach like Conte would love to have a gifted midfielder like him.
Chelsea are looking to lock down the signing of Tiemoue Bakayoko at any moment as the French midfielder is set to be their first summer signing. Despite Bakayoko’s signing, Conte feels he needs the help of an additional midfielder as the season is going to be very gruesome.
Koeman is trying hard to keep the player at Goodison Park and is ready to give him an improved contract to block his move. Everton would be looking to finish higher than the current season and Koeman knows Gueye needs to be there in the centre of the pitch to strike the perfect balance in the team.
