Celtic are stepping up their interest in Fabio Borini. Borini is a part of the Black Cats side which recently submerged deep as they were demoted to the Championship after a very poor performance this season. Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers wants to bring the Italian international to Parkhead in a massive move.
Borini had a pretty below par season as he only found the back of the net two times for Sunderland. This might sound pretty shoddy but the player is capable of much more. A Chelsea academy product, Borini had his stints at Swansea City and Liverpool and incidentally at both the clubs he had the opportunity to work with Rodgers.
A fee in the region of £6m should be enough to tempt the Black Cats for a move. They are currently going through a rough financial patch and they have to clear a chunk of the wages to welcome new players. Sunderland wouldn’t block his departure as they didn’t for Jermain Defoe who joined Bournemouth after triggering a clause in the contract.
Celtic went on to win their sixth consecutive Scottish Premiership title very convincingly as they haven’t lost a single match in this term. The Bhoys earned the ‘Invincibles’ tag as a result of their excellent performance in the Scottish top tier.
Sunderland are still to appoint a manager after the departure of David Moyes. Whoever becomes the new manager he will take an overview of the current side. Celtic are eagerly waiting for Sunderland’s green signal and Borini could be their record signing.
Fluent on the left wing, Borini has also played on the right wing and could prove to be a very useful weapon for Rodgers. Deploying him further upfront can also be an option for Rodgers.
Borini emerged a surprise target for Milan who have been on a spending spree since the transfer window has opened. Milan have already secured a number of players and Borini could be a coveted option for them. Borini had earlier plied his trade for AS Roma and a move back to his homeland might sound very tempting to him.
But Rodgers has been a constant figure in his career and this might tilt the favour towards Celtic and the lure of the Champions League will also be an added advantage. Borini is all set to move outside the Stadium of Light and Celtic have to agree on a fee with the Black Cats.
