Fabian Delph’s career at Manchester City has not taken the shape the way he had hoped. The England international hasn’t really made through to the Manchester City lineup due to his knack of picking up injuries. Delph arrived from Aston Villa in 2015 and in these two years, he has racked up only 40 appearances for the Sky Blues.
A number of injuries have jeopardised his City career and it is being reported that Guardiola is now ready to listen to offers for the midfielder. Delph played the last two games in the Premier League and showed his class by scoring an excellent long range against Hull City.
Delph arrived at City in a mixed situation as he had only signed a new deal at the Villa Park before joining City. City triggered the release clause in his contract and he arrived at the Etihad Stadium a few days later. However, his City future is looking bleak and Guardiola would demand a fee of £12m to release the player.
Three clubs who should make a move for him.
Newcastle United
The newly promoted Newcastle United will be looking for redemption when the new season will start. The Magpies were demoted to the Championship after playing some awful football but have made amends with some exciting displays in the English second tier as they romped on to win the Championship title.
Rafa Benitez is looking for some talented prospects to bolster his team for the upcoming season and Delph could come with some help. The English international made his reputation as a brilliant box to box midfielder during his time with Villa and he would be more than an asset if he stays fit.
Jack Colback has had his problem with inconsistency while Benitez cannot take the risk with newbie Isaac Hayden. City are holding for a fee of £12m but if Benitez really wants he can negotiate the amount for him.
West Bromwich Albion
With Darren Fletcher moving to Stoke City, Tony Pulis would feel the need of a tireless runner in between the pitch and Delph fits the bill perfectly. Delph has so far failed to pull the plugs for City but he still holds the same kind of intent to thrive in the English top tier. Although he hasn’t shown that amount of willingness in the past two seasons. But if given chances he can prove to be a very vital cog in the midfield.
Celtic
A move to Parkhead can be possible as Brendan Rodgers is looking for midfield reinforcements. Another City flop Scott Sinclair has made it to the ranks of the Hoops as he became one of the most trusted midfielders under Rodgers and Delph could emulate the same. His playing style is same of what Rodgers prefers and a transfer to Scotland would help him revive his career.
