Celtic’s brutally ruthless dominance on domestic soil, which saw them clinch the League Cup, Scottish Premiership and Scottish Cup (yes, the domestic treble), has been one of the success stories of the continent itself. Under the guardianship of Brendan Rodgers, the Hoops piled staggering performances week in and week out and looked miles ahead of the likes of Rangers and Aberdeen in terms of their quality as well as productivity.
In fact, Celtic won the Scottish top flight silverware without losing even a single game and it goes without saying that it would take monumental efforts from their rivals to belittle them in the upcoming seasons as well. One of the most intriguing aspects of Rodgers’ game plan was the manner in which he entrusted responsibilities on the shoulders of the youngsters he had at his disposal last season.
The former Liverpool and Swansea City boss is perennially known for giving prominence to the blossoming starlets whilst dishing out his game plan and his tenure at the Celtic Park hasn’t begged to differ.
The likes of Moussa Dembele, Kieran Tierney and Patrick Roberts have rose stupendously and now that the Bhoys are seemingly likely to look forward to registering a strong footing in the Champions League next season, the element of momentum, as well as the group cohesiveness which they built during the season which just concluded, shall hold paramount importance. Rodgers is planning to do just that as reportedly, Celtic are planning to re-sign Manchester City’s promising youngster Patrick Roberts on a permanent deal this time around.
Signed on loan by Ronny Deila during the January transfer window of 2016 for a period of eighteen months, Roberts thrived under Deila but without any shadow of a doubt, he redeemed himself in a full-fledged manner under Rodgers.
He banged six goals under the former Celtic boss whereas he found the back of the net on nine occasions alongside bagging 10 assists last season under Rodgers and has become a huge fan favourite amongst the faithful of the Glasgow-based club.
Manchester City paid £12million for signing the 20-year-old from Fulham and are reluctant to sell him for £5million, the amount which the Celts have tabled. Owing to his fine calibre and flamboyance, it would be thoroughly justifiable for the green and white crops to enhance their bid up to the vicinity of the aforesaid figure as Roberts is one of those young players which Celtic just cannot afford to miss out on for their own sake.
