Manchester City did not have a very good season this term given their high standards in the Premier League. The Citizens failed to win any silverware this season, and are looking to make amends for the next season by bringing in quite a few top class players from all over Europe to build a strong team.
However, it seems the club management is having the plan to let go of some of the players who are currently let out on loan with clubs in the Premier League as well as Europe and could have turned out to become great assets for them if nurtured in the right way. One such player is the midfielder Patrick Roberts who just concluded a memorable season with the Scottish champions Celtic, helping them to win the treble this term.
Roberts was let on loan to the Hoops by Manchester City during last summer. Since then, he has been a star for the team under the coaching of former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers and has performed immaculately for the champions this term. Celtic have not lost a single match this season and all the players along with Roberts played a very significant role in that.
The Englishman has featured in 40 games in all competitions for his current side this season. He has scored 10 valuable goals this term as well. The Celtic boss has been more than impressed with his performance and is looking to make a deal to bring him in permanently to the team for the forthcoming season.
The present man in charge at Manchester City, Pep Guardiola, is looking to offload a number of players this summer including Roberts. As a result, Celtic can be hopeful of securing his services for the next season. However, the only glitch that can come in the way of realising the deal for both the parties is the transfer fee of the player.
Manchester City paid something around £12 million to Roberts’ former club Fulham when he was brought into the Etihad Stadium in 2015. However, Celtic have offered to pay only £5 million to the Citizens for securing the services of the English international, which might not be accepted by the Premier League team, who will look for a better bid to let go of their young midfielder in the summer.
However, if the deal falls through and the Citizens are not able to offload Roberts, they should use him more on the field given his current form rather than making him sit back on the bench.
