Everton has been in much contention over the future of their star striker Romelu Lukaku for the next season, as the Belgian forward has denied to pen down a new contract which will see him stay back at the Merseyside club. Speculations are rife that this season’s second highest scorer is eyeing a move that might see him play for one of the heavyweights of the Premier League, Manchester United and Chelsea being the frontrunners in the race to secure his services.
Ronald Koeman, the man in charge at Goodison Park, is much wary about the situation and is already looking to find a viable replacement for his main man up front. With a number of options in front of him, the most suitable name that might take Lukaku’s place in the Everton line-up next term is current Leicester City star, Jamie Vardy.
It has been a far from a good season for the Foxes in the Premier League, as after their historic triumph over the coveted Premier League title last term, they only managed to finished in the 12th place in the League table, with most of their player not being able to show their prowess that helped them secure the trophy last season.
Vardy himself has not been among the goals, netting only a meagre 13 of them throughout the season, leading to the downfall of his side. However, that has not decreased his demand in the transfer market and it is very much likely that the star man might make a move out of the King Power Stadium this summer.
Reportedly, the player penned down a new four-year deal with Leicester City last summer, after rejecting a deal to move to Arsenal. This time, however, he might not stay back with his club if Everton comes with a good enough offer to compete with the current £100000-a-week wage structure that he is getting at Leicester.
Everton has reportedly received huge offers for their star striker from the big name clubs of the Premier League. The Belgian marksman has also expressed his desire to play in the Champions League in seasons to come, which indicates that he is keen to leave Goodison Park next summer and make a move to any of the aforementioned clubs.
Leicester City, meanwhile, might have to let go of their two most influential players Vardy and Riyad Mahrez following their disappointing campaign this term, as the latter is also linked to a move to Arsenal. So will Vardy be able to replace Lukaku at Everton?
