Arsenal have ended their season on a high, having won the FA Cup for the 13th time in the history of the competition. However, it has been a campaign far from satisfactory for the Gunners, as they have finished outside the top four for the first time since 1998, which sees them end up playing in the Europa League in the next season.
As an aftermath of this disappointment, the North London club are already looking to revamp their squad for the next term and have started roping in players who can turn it around for them, as well as offload those who have failed to make much of an impact on the results for the side this term.
The Gunners have brought in one of the most highly rated left backs, Sead Kolasinac from the German Bundesliga side Schalke to strengthen their backline. This important inclusion of the Bosnia and Herzegovina international has indicated towards the departure of any of the two other left-backs currently present in the Arsenal squad, Nacho Monreal and Kieran Gibbs, and looking at the current situation, it might be the England international who will have to face the axe this summer.
The English full-back has been out-of-favour for quite a long time under the coaching of Arsenal’s current manager Arsene Wenger and might be on his way out of the Emirates Stadium in the next season. This has already irked interests from a number of clubs who are looking to make a bid to bag the player for next term, including the likes of newcomers Newcastle United and Brighton and Hove Albion.
The 27-year-old left back has been handed only eight starts this season by Wenger, which has made him start to look elsewhere for a fresh start to his career as a first team player. With Brighton and Hove looking for players who are experienced campaigners in the Premier League, it might be a good choice for Gibbs to join them when the transfer window opens this summer.
However, the Gunners have reportedly put a price tag of £15 million on the England international, which might not be easily affordable by the new entrants into the Premier League Brighton. Proper negotiation might help from turning down the transfer, and it is very much likely that Brighton might strike the deal to bag the Arsenal left back this summer.
As per sources, Premier League side Watford are also interested in bagging the full-back for their squad for the new season.
