There’s no doubt that Ousmane Dembele is among the top five hottest prospects in world football right now. He, along with another young attacker Kylian Mbappe in the French National Team have been touted as the best, in years to come.
Dembele is on the back of a great season with Borussia Dortmund where he also won the DFB Cup. However, recently he left some hints about his possible transfers in the future, as he admitted that FC Barcelona was in contact with him and recently he even liked a couple of tweets from the UEFA Champions League official handle and Victor Lindelof. Unsurprisingly, both of them was about the Danish defender officially unveiling himself as a Manchester United player.
So is he really interested in moving to Manchester in the future? If he does, will he solve the lack of a proper explosive winger for the Red Devils? Let’s figure out!
Manchester United are a team filled with quality individuals such as Anthony Martial, Juan Mata, Henrikh Mkhitaryan amongst many others. However, one would say they have lacked the services of a proper number seven in recent years, as massive signings such as Memphis Depay, Angel Di Maria terribly failed and eventually left the Old Trafford.
As for Dembele, he acts like a proper number seven for Dortmund where he uses his amazing dribbling skills and great close control to keep the opposition fullbacks busy. He has an amazing pace which gives him an advantage over the opposition, especially with the loose balls. And in the Premier League, that could be really useful, as the ball generally tends to bounce around the pitch because of the high octane nature of the game in England.
One thing which helped Dembele outwit the likes of Andre Schurrle and Mario Gotze in the Dortmund team is his level of directness. He can be devastating with his straight runs in at defence, much like what Henrikh Mkhitaryan used to do while he was at Dortmund. He is very agile on and off the ball, and his clever drop of the shoulders often outwits the defenders, even the likes of David Alaba!
He is also very good at controlling the ball, often switching between touching the ball with his toes and sliding with the inside of his foot. This is a very good trait to have especially against English opposition where players get so little time to settle themselves with the ball at their feet. In fact, Dembele has shown it in the past that he can thrive against English opposition as he completely tormented the Manchester United defence, when the two sides were playing a friendly at the start of last season.
Another thing Manchester United have lacked this season is productivity. Other than Zlatan Ibrahimovic, no other player has managed to score ten or more goals this season for the Red Devils in the league. Ander Herrera has been their leading assist provider this season with eleven assists. Ousmane however, clearly excels in that department as he has scored ten goals and a provided a whopping 21 assists for Dortmund, that, in his debut season at the club.
This proves that the Frenchman isn’t afraid to take the next step and is always ready for every challenge. The journey from Stade Rennais to Borussia Dortmund sure wasn’t easy but Dembele made it completely effortless. Manchester United will really have something in their locker if they manage to sign the Borussia Dortmund whizkid in the future.
Although that seems very unlikely as the Frenchman is on a five-year contract with the club and with the likes of FC Barcelona also interested in his services, it will be really tough for Jose Mourinho’s men to lure the Borussia Dortmund attacker to Manchester.
