Barcelona have been looking to make the next season a satisfactory one, which was not the case last season, having lost their Spanish La Liga title to arch-rivals Real Madrid and also having their Champions League campaign cut short by the defeat in the quarter-finals at the hands of eventual finalists and the Italian champions Juventus.
The Catalan giants are looking to get reinforcements in the team for the next season to make their team stronger, and are in pursuit to sign their former player Gerard Deulofeu, whom they had left to join Premier League side Everton in 2015. Everton had paid £4.2 million at that time to make the Spanish youngster wear their colours, but their current coach Ronald Koeman has reportedly grown frustrated with Deulofeu in the recent times and has no plans of keeping him in his squad for the next season.
The Spanish giants, however, are going to bring back the gem of their “B” team into their senior squad this summer and are hoping that he will be able to again weave the same magic which enabled him to score 27 times for the Barcelona “B” side along with laying off five assists, helping his teammates to score goals as well.
Barcelona is supposed to make use of their buy back clause worth £10.5 million for the 23-year-old midfielder, who has been more of a misfit at the Merseyside club for most of the time he has spent there. For the last part of the season that has recently concluded, the Spaniard was left on loan to play for the Italian club AC Milan and has now returned to Everton.
The 23-year-old has so far played only six games for the Barcelona senior side, which was way back in 2013 before he joined the Toffees on loan in the very next season. The Spaniard went on to impress in his debut season in the Premier League club and was signed permanently in the year 2015 by the then manager of Everton Roberto Martinez.
However, he failed to show glimpses of the form that was a part of his game during his loan stay at the Merseyside club in the recent season and is set to be offloaded in the next season.
Barcelona have been in contention with their recent form and want their new manager Ernesto Valverde to start the next campaign on a winning note, and are thus looking to bring in a number of new faces in the team.
