Jurgen Klopp has taken Liverpool to the Champions League in his first full season at the club as he managed to take them to a 4th place finish in the points table. The manager made some smart buys in the summer at the start of the season and will be hoping to add similar players to his squad before the start of the next season.
They have been linked with players who can improve many positions in the squad but where do Liverpool need to concentrate this summer? The Reds have quite a few frailties in their squad that need to be addressed this summer and Klopp needs to make sure that they improve on certain aspects of the game if they are to compete with the best next season. Keeping that in mind, here are three things Liverpool need to do to impress their fans in the upcoming campaign:
Spend on readymade stars:
For quite a while now, Liverpool have been spending money on players who showed potential elsewhere. But it might finally be time for Klopp to land players who have already established themselves in the European circuit. The Reds have an exciting squad at their disposal but they lack genuine world class stars in the squad and no matter what the position is, they need players who can be consistent at the highest level and need to spend on such player if they are to impress next season.
Learn to defend set-pieces:
A problem for even the best clubs in Europe, the dead ball situations, has been an arch enemy of the Reds for more than a season now. They have conceded more goals from set-pieces than any other club in the top-6 in the last couple of seasons and it is high time that they shrug off the tag. They use a zonal system to mark players during corners and free-kicks but do not have the personnel to execute it. So Klopp should either spend on such players or look to change the system, so they are not vulnerable yet again next season.
Keep their players fit:
Though not something that can be controlled by the club, Liverpool need their players to be fit for greater parts of the season. Daniel Sturridge and Danny Ings are two of the best strikers in England but both players have failed to make more than 10 PL starts together in the last couple of season. Ings has been unlucky and Sturridge, well, has been injured for most of the two previous season and Klopp has to make sure that his medical staff take extra care of his players to allow them to fight for places in the first team on a regular basis.
