Crystal Palace hit a rough patch in the last season as the Eagles struggled quite regularly for most of the season. But the appointment of Sam Allardyce turned the tide for their side as the ex-England manager steadied the ship. The serial relegation evader was at it once again as he helped them finish in the 14th place in the Premier League table.
But everyone was surprised as Big Sam submitted his resignation after just two days of the final game of the season. Palace are yet to appoint a manager as chairman Steve Parish has been searching a man who would be able to match the philosophy of the club.
Parish doesn’t want to appoint a manager on a short term basis as it would hamper the club’s prosperity. Without the proper guidance of a manager, the club won’t be able to stamp the final seal on any transfer and they might miss out on a number of potential targets in the transfer market.
A number of names have been rounded up since the departure of him including Frank de Boer and Manuel Pellegrini. But with the next season approaching quickly they have to fulfil the basic requirements of the team and we take a look at 3 players they should target in the transfer window.
Chris Wood
Whoever comes in at the Selhurst Park would be looking to add a significant player to partner Christian Benteke up front. The Belgian has been very inconsistent in terms of form and a suitable goalscoring poacher would be able to ease the pressure off him.
Wood has proved his credentials in the Championship this season having emerged as the highest scorer in the England second tier. The New Zealand international has netted 15 goals and has been in the news for a long time.
Wood was linked with a number of Premier League clubs as he wants to test his mettle in the top tier. Lining him up alongside Benteke would give the Eagles a perfect edge in the upcoming season.
Jack Wilshere
The midfielder will be returning to the Emirates after a slightly erratic season. With the World Cup approaching, he wants to be in the contention of the Three Lions manager Gareth Southgate so he might consider a move elsewhere. If he remains fit, the 25-year-old could be a real asset for the team.
Chris Smalling
Jose Mourinho is willing to listen to offers for the defender and the defender has been linked with a number of clubs. Palace have earlier failed to strike a permanent deal for Mamadou Sakho but they can surely afford Smalling. The English International will offer a lot of versatility to the team.
