Tottenham Hotspur are set to announce their first signing at any moment as they have reportedly agreed on a fee with Istanbul Basaksehir for talented youngster Cengiz Under. The 19-year-old has been in Mauricio Pochettino’s radar for a long time and the North London club will have to shell out a sum of £8m for the Turkish winger. The teenager has already been a part of the first team for his club and has featured in 31 matches in the Turkish Super Lig for his side.
Widely touted as an exciting future prospect, the player was also scouted by Manchester United for a brief period. Under would be joining the likes of Dele Alli, Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen at Spurs and the idea of linking up with these players is already looking very exciting. Pochettino loves to work with a young bunch of players and Under will relish this opportunity to thrive under his guidance.
Under moved to Basaksehir from Altınordu for a meagre £600,000 last summer and his current club is set to make a windfall from his signing. Under’s special quality is his pace which is an essential attribute to have success in the Premier League.
He can accelerate with immense speed and can dribble past a number of defenders in a matter of time. He can play on either wing and the left footer is equally comfortable with his right foot also. A no.10 role is also a viable option for Pochettino as he will be measuring his options for the young playmaker.
His excellent qualities earned him two Turkish international caps and he also found the net once in these matches. Spurs have struggled with young wingers this season as both Clinton N’Jie and Kevin N’Koudou have not been able to establish themselves. Both the players have had their fair share of chances but had a very disappointing campaign.
Under came through the ranks of Bucaspor and had his first taste of professional football with Altinordu. Basaksehir managed to come very close to the Turkish title this season but lost the race by a whisker to Besiktas.
Had they been able to master the title it would have been a little bit difficult for the North London side to secure his services. Pochettino might use him in the Cup games before using him, full frontal, in the Premier League. The youngster is scheduled to make a move outside the country for the first time and it remains to be seen how he performs.
