Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs have some serious transfer targets to help them progress in Europe and in the league next season. They have been linked with a number of star players recently and one name constantly doing the rounds recently is that of Portuguese national Bruma.
According to reports, the Guinea-Bissau-born midfielder has refrained himself from training with the first team at Galatasaray as they continue to boycott against their manager. And this has given fuel to rumours that he could be heading to the Premier League this summer.
The 22-year old is an admirer of Jose Mourinho and revealed earlier in the season that he wants to work under the Portuguese manager. However, Leicester City along with Southampton are also monitoring his situation.
A versatile player, capable of playing in any of the five roles behind the striker on either wing, Bruma has ten goals and eight assists to his name in all competitions this season. He has represented Portugal in every domestic level and is not too far away from a national call-up.
Known for his blistering pace, annoying strength and exceptional dribbling abilities, Bruma is a genuine winger who loves to take on his man. He is hard to match in one on one situations and is a defender’s nightmare. He loves to play short passes to teammates who can set him on goal and is adept at cutting inside from the flank to free up space for his side.
He is smart with his movement and runs and at 22, will only get better with more game time. He still is a bit raw and is not strong with his defensive duties. He also has to work on his aerial ability but at his age, he is a beast, ready to take on the best in Europe.
Spurs have Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli and Heung-Min Son playing behind Harry Kane this season. Eric Lamela may yet be an option next season but it is hard to see Pochettino stick with Georges-Kevin N’Koudou and Moussa Sissoko as the only other backups.
This has seen him linked with a number of wingers, including the likes of Wilfried Zaha from Crystal Palace but Bruma could be a shrewd addition. He can play as a number 10 and also as a winger and his versatility will surely attract Pochettino.
Though not great defensively, Bruma is a hard worker, and will surely win the trust of the Spurs manager in no time. At his age, he will find it hard to walk into most first teams in Europe but at the White Hart Lane, with Pochettino’s recruitment model, Bruma could go on to be as important a star to the club as Eriksen or Alli. Do you think Pochettino should spend on Bruma?
