Tottenham Hotspur are currently in a spot of bother over the future of their long time right back Kyle Walker. Reportedly, the England international’s relation with the Spurs coach Mauricio Pochettino has deteriorated in the recent times, with the latter making him sit out for most of the matches. Kevin Trippier has started in the right back position for Spurs in their recent matches.
As per sources, Manchester City is keeping a close eye on the developments of the situation. Speculations are rife that if there is no positive outcome, Walker might leave White Hart Lane in the new season to join the Citizens.
Reportedly, Tottenham are also looking to part ways with their right back and bring in someone new into that position for the next season. They are eyeing the right back from Bournemouth Adam Smith, who was let out of White Hart Lane to join the Cherries in 2014.
Adam Smith has been one of the mainstays in the defence for Bournemouth and is highly rated as a right back in the current Premier League season. Eddie Howe, the manager of Bournemouth, is much dependent on his side’s prized possession and it will be hard for him to let Smith leave Dean Court during the next transfer window.
Smith has made 34 appearances for the Cherries so far. He has played a pivotal role in holding the defence for them, as well as going up the field on occasions to ensure a regular supply of passes into the attacking third. He is recorded to have assisted his teammates on five occasions to score goals this season. His maiden goal came in their 2-2 draw against Stoke City last weekend.
The 26-year old right-back is a product of the Tottenham Hotspur academy and had started his career with them. However, he only made one start for them in the six years he spent at the White Hart Lane, having spent the rest of the time on loan stints with seven different clubs including Bournemouth.
Smith spent one season at Bournemouth on loan, the 2010-11 one to be precise. He returned to join them as a full-time player in the year 2014 and has since been playing as an integral part of the team in the Premier League.
His gallant performance in the backline for the Cherries has attracted the attention of Spurs coach Mauricio Pochettino, who is known for his benevolent guidance that can bring the best out of youngsters, Gareth Bale being the brightest instance of that. Smith is sure to benefit under his tutelage, given he joins them next season.
