When Jose Mourinho was given the charge of managing Manchester United nobody would have expected what could be the circumstances aftermath. And with the season almost coming to an end, Mourinho has already delivered his first title as the Red Devils got hold of the EFL Cup and they are also running for the Europa League title as they will be facing Celta Vigo in the semifinal.
Bets were against the Portuguese when he was handed the responsibility and things began to start fading away as consecutive losses had put United on the brink of another dreadful season. But just when everybody started to think that Jose won’t be able to glorify the clubs pride, United started to fire. Slowly and silently they have come a long way and they are now 25 games unbeaten in the Premier League. United hierarchy is happy with the way things have shaped up so far and the two-time Champions League winner is believed to have earned the plaudits coming his way. Things cannot change in a day and Mourinho needs to get the things done in the next season.
Bring a top class midfielder
Things have been promising but that feel good factor is missing. United did sign Paul Pogba but the French midfielder hasn’t been able to showcase that kind of performance for which he was brought in for. Michael Carrick and Ander Herrera have been very good but that leadership in the middle of the park has been missing. Morgan Schneiderlin could have been that player but he chose to join Everton later. With the transfer window scheduled to open, Mourinho needs to find that playmaker who could stabilise the midfield.
Sign a new left back
Mourinho has criticised Luke Shaw openly which might have affected his game. Regarded as one of the best left-back, Shaw has struggled to get into the starting lineup with Ashley Young, Matteo Darmian and Daley Blind rotated on the left side of the defence. Shaw has also been very injury prone and the Portuguese gaffer needs to sign an alternative option.
Line up a ‘fox in the box’ type striker
The absence of Zlatan Ibrahimovic might come back to haunt the Red Devils but at the age of 35, the Swede has done more than enough for his club and something which no one could have even imagined. He has netted 17 goals in the English top flight before his injury. But the problem for Mourinho is other than Zlatan, the goals have dried up for the United players. United have been linked with a number of forwards and one could expect the arrival of a top striker at the Old Trafford.
