Brighton & Hove Albion might not have had the luxury of clinching the Championship silverware after their 1-1 draw against Aston Villa in their final game of the season but Chris Hughton’s men have earned a direct promotion to the Premier League, which is unarguably a huge achievement for the club. They have already started to assess their targets for the summer transfer window and have recently been reported to have been eyeing Ludogorets Razgrad’s Jonathan Cafu.
We have compiled a brief SWOT Analysis of Cafu which would enable our readers to see if he is worth the fuss.
Strengths
Cafu has been improvising his traits ever since he found a footing in the game and hasn’t looked back ever since. A winger with sheer pace and determination, Cafu thrives on acceleration, footwork and close control. He belongs to a breed of wingers who love to build-up the game from deeper positions and is a very curious customer on the pitch. He constantly sniffs for spaces for himself as well as for his teammates, cuts inside meticulously and excels in testing the opponents’ goalkeeper time and again. Moreover, he dictates the tempo of the game on his own in the final third and no wonder why his stocks have risen to such a galvanising extent.
Weaknesses
Though his technical skills and audacity are compelling ones, his diminutive figure is something which could be a massive problem for him in the Premier League. In a league which is famed for its animosity, Cafu might actually struggle in coming up against the elite clubs of the English football. Moreover, the Brazilian doesn’t contribute very much as far as the defensive duties are concerned and stagnates more often than not against the compact defensive setups.
Opportunities
With a move to the American Express Community Stadium, Cafu could earn himself a wide scale limelight and make himself a household name in times to come with stellar performances. Ever since joining Ludogorets in 2015, he has cemented himself as a pivotal cog in their system and has impressed in the Champions League as well. A step forward could do wonders for him and with the calibre he possesses, the Seagulls would get the chance of laying their hands on one of the notable properties to have emerged this season.
Threats
English Premier League is a league lying in the highest pedestal and without any experience with any of the major clubs in Europe, one might wonder if the 25-year-old winger would actually excel in this league. Besides, the asking rate of the fans and media alike would be huge, considering his £10.2million transfer fee and he would have to shoulder the responsibilities of a club which is eyeing for a growth. Can he sustain and endure the heat? Only time will tell.
