Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United are still in with a chance of qualification for Europe if they are able to win the Europa League this Thursday but Jose Mourinho is already planning some big changes to his squad next season. He is looking to improve on his full-back situation in the squad and reports suggest that he is ready to do what it takes to land Tottenham Hotspur’s Kyle Walker.
According to reports from the Express, the Red Devils are ready to offer young full-back Luke Shaw as a part of the deal to land the English international from the Lane this summer. The report also suggests that United might be persuaded to offer £30m + Luke Shaw for Walker and are ready to double the player’s wages for the next season.
An English international who has found it hard to prove himself at the highest level, Luke Shaw is still one of the best players in his position in England. He is touted as the future star for England but Jose Mourinho has constantly targeted him this season and it does not look like he has a future at Old Trafford beyond this season.
The likes of Matteo Darmian, Daley Blind and Marcos Rojo have been used extensively this season by Mourinho and he is already looking at a left-back to add to his squad in the summer. He does not have too many options on the other wing either with Antonio Valencia as the only senior right-back in the squad.
So ideally, Mourinho would want to keep Shaw and add Walker to his side but the report suggests that he is now ready to offload Shaw for what will effectively be just £10m this summer. Needless to say, the Spurs will not be one bit interested in this deal but with Walker already searching for an exit, Pochettino might find solace in landing one of the brightest talents in England.
The Spurs full-back Walker has not looked comfortable since reports of a mishap with the manager broke out a month or so ago and it increasingly looks like his time at the Lane is up. Manchester City are also interested in his signature but the Spurs might now be tempted to bring Luke Shaw to the club to get rid of a player who is not too happy staying at the club beyond the summer.
It is not an easy decision to take but Pochettino, who looks increasingly likely to lose Walker this summer, should consider bringing in Luke Shaw in his place, to help add competition to Danny Rose, while Ben Davies could be finally pushed out of the squad
