Manchester United are set to have yet another busy transfer window as they have now qualified for the Champions League and are ready to break the bank yet again this summer. The Red Devils are looking to improve on every position in the squad and Jose Mourinho, the manager, is desperate to find the perfect partner for world record signing Paul Pogba.
The Red Devils have used the likes of Ander Herrera, Marouane Fellaini and Michael Carrick as a midfield partner for Paul Pogba and though the Frenchman has done well to settle in, he will want more protection behind him next season, to venture forward confidently. And one player United want to add to allow Pogba to do so is AS Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko.
The French international has been at Monaco for more than a couple of years now but has only blossomed into a player that he is, in this season and the last. He has 51 appearances for the French side, showing how important he has been to the club this season. He has constantly been linked with an exit, after his impressive stint, with Chelsea reportedly leading the race for his signature.
Capable of putting in the crunching, goal-saving tackle on a regular basis, Bakayoko is a strong and athletic defensive midfielder. He is a superb with his dribbling and passing, in the close circuit or over long distances and is a player who can hold on to the ball under severe pressure. He loves to sit back alongside his centre backs to add mettle to his side but is not afraid even a bit, in venturing forward when his team are on top.
Playing for United, Bakayoko is expected to walk into the first team and should play as the deepest of the midfielders. Mourinho should stick with a three-man midfield and play Pogba in his natural RM role. This must see the manager use Ander Herrera at the other end of the midfield.
This adds a balance to the United squad and some strength for sure. They have been a decent team defensively but playing at the highest stage, Jose Mourinho will know that he needs each and every player to be at their best every game to end the next season in success. Bakayoko certainly fits that bill.
He is wanted by Chelsea, who are ready to offer £40m for his services but with United finally qualifying for UCL, they might take the first step to sign the 22-year to solve their midfield problems next season.
