Manchester United are looking to revamp their side after a rather non-satisfactory performance this season. The defence has been a major concern for the Red Devils of late. With the next season in view, Jose Mourinho, the current man in charge at Old Trafford is planning to inject some new blood into the side, one option being the in-form Brazilian defender Marquinhos.
Marquinhos has been playing a key role in his current club Paris Saint-German for quite a few years now and is hailed as one of the best centre backs in the world at present. The Brazilian defender is versatile in nature and has shown his brilliance as a right back as well. He joined Paris Saint German from Italian club Roma in 2013 and has since become an integral part of the French champions.
The 22 year old was targeted by Manchester United last summer as well, but the deal did not go through at that time due to the player’s disinterest to leave PSG. It is now being speculated that the Red Devils are showing reinvigorated interest in the Olympic Gold medal winner with a fresh bid of £59 million to bag him this time.
The PSG defender looks a necessity for Manchester United, given that defenders like Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Marcos Rojo are sidelined with injuries. Burnley defender Michael Keane has also been linked with a move back to his former club to normalise the tumultuous situation of their defence.
Marquinhos has been instrumental in making Paris Saint German a top club in the French as well as European competitions. The Brazilian, apart from his defensive awareness, is also known for his ability to pass the ball to the right player in the right area.
Like most Brazilian players, Marquinhos also possesses mesmerising dribbling skills. He is also equipped with a strong ability to hold onto the ball for a significant amount of time and his concentration at the back is also outstanding.
However, the Red Devils might have to face competition in bagging the Brazilian, with a number of other big name clubs from England and Europe showing interest in the 22 year old defender. Reportedly, Manchester United’s arch rivals and current Premier League leaders Chelsea are also trying to bring the centre back to Stamford Bridge this summer. It will all depend on the French side if they are willing to let go off their prized possession at the end of the season.
