A late revival may well see Leicester City finish in the top half of the table now by the end of the season, after what seemed to end as a nightmare for the defending champions. The 3-0 demolition of Watford last game now sees them sitting at 9th position in the table with three more games to go.
The Foxes visit Manchester City next, who are flying high with confidence at the moment after thrashing Sam Allardyce’s men 5-0 last game. But, Leicester have enjoyed their fixtures against City of late with the Foxes winning the reverse fixture 4-2 back in December. City’s tactics have somehow fallen short when up against Leicester’s raw counter.
Leicester have won their last two league games against City and with ease, where they have scored a minimum of three goals in each fixture. However, interestingly, the Foxes haven’t won three in a row against City in the last 50 years. A win here would be historical.
With Everton more or less securing their position in the 7th spot the maximum Leicester could aim will be overcoming West Bromwich Albion in the eighth position, which won’t guarantee a European spot.
Possible Leicester City XI vs Manchester City
Defence
Kasper Schmeichel will start under the bar. The towering Dane has been a rock for Leicester at the back under Craig Shakespeare, regaining his colossus stature in performances. However, Leicester would find it extremely difficult to retain him this summer given the traction he has received in the last two seasons.
The back line is expected to remain the same. With Wes Morgan not returning before next season now, Shakespeare has wasted no time in finding the next best replacement in Yohan Benalouane. The Tunisian international will start alongside Robert Huth.
The defensive flanks will be taken by Christian Fuchs and Danny Simpson. The duo has been extremely disciplined under the new boss hardly giving any breathing space to the toughest of opponents. And against Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling, they would need to up their level.
Midfield
The central midfield will be held by Onyinye Ndidi and Danny Drinkwater. The duo had a brilliant game last week and will be filled with confidence. The flanks will be taken by Marc Albrighton and Riyad Mahrez. There are eight goals and nine assists among them, and Shakespeare would expect them to increase the tally.
Attack
The attacking department will be led by Jamie Vardy and Shinji Okazaki. Vardy has scored three times in six outings against City and would fancy his chances again.
