Amidst Leeds United’s major upset this season, a certain Charlie Taylor has hogged all the limelight last week as the left-back refused to play Leeds’ final game of the season against Wigan Athletic. The 23-year old has been a regular in Garry Monk’s side this term and was called into action on Sunday after Liam Cooper injured his ankle in training.
The full-back refused to take part in the game stating the manager in private that he was advised against playing the game. Leeds drew the game 1-1, and it made his action all the more frustrating for the fans. The club hasn’t taken it lightly and is also set to fine him for his little rebellion.
Taylor’s contract with the club ends this summer and with his departure imminent, numerous Premier League clubs have been linked. Here are the 3 possible destinations for Charlie Taylor-
West Bromwich Albion- Tony Pulis’ side has already taken giant strides in landing him at Hawthorns, with many reports claiming that the player has already decided about a move to Albion. The Baggies have had a decent season so far, with a top half finish more or less secured for them.
Targeting the European stage would be a realistic challenge next season and Pulis would need more defensive reinforcements. Interestingly, the Baggies have no natural left-back as of now, and Pulis should be really credited for managing a full season mostly with right-backs Allan Nyom and Kane Wilson in that role. With little to no injuries, the Welsh manager pulled off quite a feat and Taylor would be a brilliant option to the side given his offensive attributes.
Stoke City- The Potters are also keeping tabs on the player as Mark Hughes plans to inject some young blood into his side next season. Stoke City have largely had players who are in their late 20s and early 30s this season, and the Welsh manager has grand plans of remodelling it.
With Eric Pieters being the only natural left-back in the side, Taylor would again have no problems whatsoever breaking into the first team.
Newcastle United- The newly promoted side is expected to undergo another large influx with Rafael Benitez planning a meticulous transfer plan. Newcastle United would obviously need a better bench in the Premier League and Benitez, after managing the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea previously, is well aware of that.
In Paul Dummett, the Spaniard has a disciplined full-back, who can be lethal on the offensive as well. And Benitez would want someone like Taylor to be available whenever the need arises.
