It is about time for Leeds United to target Ligue 1 attacker, Yannis Salibur, once again after having failed to lure him to the Elland Road in the summer transfer window of 2016. Reports have emerged that the Whites are closely monitoring the progress of the Frenchman but failed to make the deal cross the line.
In the Championship campaign which just concluded, we witnessed Chris Wood under intense pressure of single-handedly catering to a major part of the offensive needs of the club and thus, acquiring a prolific attacker to beef up the quality of their attacking arsenal during the upcoming summer transfer window holds paramount importance.
The Peacocks mustered an unconvincing end to the season in the Championship, having failed to earn a play-off spot. Under the tutelage of Garry Monk, the West Yorkshire based club did look capable enough to finish inside the top six in the league charts but agonisingly, they completely withered away during the business end of the term and finished 7th.
Monk’s departure implies that whosoever is entrusted with the managerial responsibilities of the club would have to ensure that the Troops get the necessary doses of confidence to mount a substantial challenge for promotional spots.
Salibur thrived in the French top division for Guingamp in the 2016-17 campaign, scoring eight goals and registering four assists in 35 appearances for the Ligue 1 outfit. Further, he managed to make 1.6 key passes per game on an average and inked a pass accuracy of 81.9%, which give testaments as to why he has emerged as one of the success stories of late.
One of the most intriguing aspects which he had offered last season was his versatility of plying his trade on either wing, as a central attacking midfielder as well as a centre forward. He is a player of fine calibre and there are no two views about it.
The 26-year-old has raw pace, loves to run up and down the pitch relentlessly and dribbles past his opponents with relative ease. He loves to cross the ball into the box, is phenomenal with the set-pieces and loves to cut inside from the wing and test the goalkeeper with his thunderous shots.
Besides, his well-structured frame enables him to get into intense physical battles and he knits the game perfectly in the final third. By signing him, Leeds United will not only have the chance of landing a sensational attacking player but will also get the chance of infusing an element of surprise while dishing out their tactics.
