Although Leeds United have failed to seal a playoff spot this season, they would be hoping to finish the season on a winning note. In the last match of a disappointing season, Leeds will travel to the DW Stadium to salvage some pride against Wigan Athletic. Wigan have already got relegated and they will be playing for pride. These kind of games are more difficult to judge and Garry Monk will have to make it sure complacency doesn’t interfere with their form.
A playoff spot is out of contention unless Leeds score 13 goals in the next match and Fulham lose their match against Sheffield Wednesday which is virtually impossible. It is very hard to inspire a team for this kind of match but given the record, Monk knows the importance of this match as it could set up the stage for the next season.
Predicted 4-2-3-1 Leeds United Lineup Against Wigan Athletic
Defence
Robert Green has had a good season under the bar and he should continue in the goal. The 37-year-old has performed decently and will be hoping to end the season with a clean sheet.
Monk is expected to field the same back line that conceded three goals at the hands of Norwich City. The pair of Kyle Bartley and Pontus Jansson had a nightmare game against the Canaries as the central defensive pair had to swallow three goals. Wigan doesn’t possess that much of attacking threat but any lapse of concentration could prove to be very costly.
Gaetano Berardi has been relatively consistent with his performance as a left back and will start in the last match of the season.
Luke Ayling will operate from the other side.
Midfield
Ronaldo Vieira has formed a reasonably good partnership with Kalvin Phillips off late. Phillips had to come off from the bench in the last match but looking at the importance of this match, Monk will field his preferred pair in the midfield. They will try to implement a good show in the midfield.
Attack
Pablo Hernandez has played a key role in Leeds’ not so erratic season and will be up there in the no. 10 position.
The left wing will be occupied by Stuart Dallas. Dallas will try to help his team going forward.
Kemar Roofe is capable of creating havoc in the opponent’s ranks.
Chris wood has had a memorable season so far and he will definitely be the man to watch.
