Manchester United have been facing a world of difficulties in their defence this season. With defenders like Eric Bailly and Marcos Rojo injured, along with Chris Smalling and Phil Jones not being able to continue for 90 minutes at tandem, Jose Mourinho and his team are desperately looking for a player who can release them from their defensive woes in the next season.
Reportedly, the Portuguese manager is eyeing Michael Keane, a former Manchester United player to make a move back to Old Trafford. The English defender is currently playing for Burnley and is in good form of late, which was enough to hand him his maiden call-up to the national side.
Two years ago, Michael Keane was left to join Burnley with the Dutchman Louis van Gaal in charge of the Red Devils. The 24-year old has been since playing regularly in the Premier League, exposing him to an invaluable experience of better match reading and strengthening his defensive aspects. Now, two years down the line, Keane has become an impressive player nevertheless, raising his game to get a call from Gareth Southgate, the present England coach.
Michael Keane’s excellent performance for his team in the Premier League this season has attracted a number of the big name clubs like Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham to bag him for the next season. However, his former club Manchester United currently looks to be the most likely destination for this young defender.
Keane has been a crucial part of the Burnley line-up for the current season, giving their defence a world of solidity. In his 33 appearances for the club, he has also contributed with 2 goals. He has a superb ability to win balls in aerial duels, along with a strong quality to intercept passes from the opposition.
Among his other specialities, concentration over the ball during the game along with the ability to block vicious shots deserves mention. Keane has been an integral part of the Burnley line-up and it goes without saying that the Red Devils have to try very hard to lure the defender back to Old Trafford.
Reportedly, Keane’s former club Manchester United are in discussions with Burnley in order to secure the services of the 24-year-old defender for the next season. Jose Mourinho looks desperate to bring in someone as good as Keane to solve the problems at the heart of defence next term, the present one being a dismal and injury plagued one for the Red Devils’ defenders.
