According to reports, Manchester United are weighing options to table a bid for AS Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan. The Belgian midfielder would be a prized asset for United if they can somehow get his services. Chelsea had tried a number of times to rope in the Belgian midfielder but every time their bid had been turned down by the Italian club. The 29-year-old joined the Rome club from Cagliari for a fee of £7.7m has gone on to become one of the hottest properties in European football.
Rumours have started to pour in as United have been linked with a number of midfielders in the recent past. Mourinho has tried a number of combinations in the midfield doesn’t seem to be happy with the current squad depth. He will again invest heavily in the summer to give United an edge over the other top European clubs. Nainggolan’s addition would give Paul Pogba a license to roam freely around the pitch and would bring the much-needed balance that the Portuguese gaffer has been trying to strike. Nainggolan’s vision and passing range will be something which will certainly aid them next season as the Red Devils will finish sixth after another disappointing season.
Chelsea are also in the line to bring the midfielder to Stamford Bridge. Antonio Conte is believed to be an ardent admirer of the playmaker since his Juventus days and would try again to snap up the midfielder. With European campaign in the offing in the next season, he needs to make some bold signing to make Chelsea one of the European powerhouses again. However, he won’t come cheap and a bidding war is slated to start.
Nainggolan inspired a 3-2 victory against Juventus as Roma cut back the deficit to four points in the Serie A. Jose Mourinho had sent the scouts to watch the player over and over again and is convinced about his credentials. An offer in the region of £35m should be enough to trigger Roma’s interest. However, it would be difficult for them to lure the player to England as Roma would be holding a spot in the next season’s Champions League and losing one of their key players would certainly not be an option for them.
A host of players will be asked to leave the club as Mourinho will undergo a squad overhaul in the summer. Enticing him won’t be that easy as they will face a stiff challenge from Chelsea.
