Manchester City managed a controversial 2-1 win over Leicester City to virtually confirm their place in the top four. David Silva opened the scoring for the hosts with a sloppy finish, giving them a controversial lead after there were enough indications that Raheem Sterling, who interfered with the play was standing in an offside position.
Gabriel Jesus doubled the lead in the 36th minute while Shinji Okazaki cut the lead down to one goal again with an excellent finish. Manchester City held on to the lead despite conceding a penalty through Gael Clichy, after Mahrez fluffed the shot from the spot, getting two touches of either leg. Below are the Manchester City’s player ratings for this game:
Willy Caballero (7.5):
Caballero had a good game between the sticks as he made several tough claims in the air. He couldn’t have done much about the first goal.
Fernandinho (7):
Fernandinho was solid at the back, playing again as a right-back. He not only kept a defensive lid but was also offensively influential.
Vincent Kompany (7.5):
Kompany had a fine game at the heart of the defence, making a few decent challenges and aerials clearances to ward off the danger.
Nicolas Otamendi (7):
Otamendi did well to play out from the back and was solid alongside Kompany to keep the scoreline at 2-1.
Gael Clichy (6.5):
Clichy had a tough time and was outdone by Mahrez and Slimani on a few occasions. He also conceded a rather silly penalty which fortunately for him, Mahrez wasn’t able to convert.
Yaya Toure (8):
Toure had a decent game, bullying opposition midfielders and winning a lot of duels in the middle of the park.
Kevin De Bruyne (6.5):
The Belgian had a limited influence as he played in a relatively deeper role but did well to pull the strings in the midfield.
Raheem Sterling (7.5):
Sterling had a very good game as he made some smart runs down the right, creating some really good chances but unfortunately wasn’t able to convert any of them.
David Silva (7.5):
Silva got the first goal for City but wasn’t as good as he normally is as he made a few errors in his passing.
Leroy Sane (8):
Sane did well stretching the makeshift Leicester City defence wide and improvised really well to trouble the hosts all night.
Gabriel Jesus (7):
Dispatched from the penalty spot calmly to double the lead and drew a number of fouls from Leicester players.
Substitutes:
Sergio Aguero (7):
Aguero had a decent game after coming on, dribbling past several defenders but failed to score.
Pablo Zabaleta (7):
Zabaleta did well at the back after coming on late in the game.
Jesus Navas:
Navas played too little to warrant a rating.
