Liverpool have just finished one of their best seasons in the recent past, with a place in the top four and hence qualifying for the Champions League for the next season. All the players were designated their individual roles for the season and played them well to help their team achieve this glory.
Lucas Leiva, the Brazilian midfield enforcer has also been at the top of his game for the Reds this term. However, he might look to pull the curtain on his Liverpool career at the end of this season, as his contract expires at Anfield. Sources suggest that the 30 year old Brazilian has been linked with a move to the Turkish giants Galatasaray for the next season and that he might end his decade-long career with the Reds this summer.
Lucas, during his 10-year stay at Anfield, has been a part of many memorable moments for Liverpool. His dedication to the team has always been worthy of mention. His proven track record gives an idea as to why he has been one of the most highly rated players throughout his career for the Reds.
Lucas is known for his ability to intercept the balls played between the opponent players and also thread key passes for his teammates into the attacking third. His crucial assists have on various occasions, spelt disaster for the opposition team.
Apart from his abilities to keep hold of the ball for a significant amount of time, the Brazilian midfielder is known for his quality to chip in with crucial interceptions and blocks from time to time to keep his team in an advantageous position.
However, the deal with the Turkish club Galatasaray is not turning out to be smooth for the Liverpool player, and it has reportedly been stalled for the time being. The major reason behind that has been Lucas’ demand to have his transfer fee in British pound sterling rather than Turkish Lira, which amounts to £3 million in total.
Moreover, the Brazilian midfielder has reportedly also demanded an extra £1.5 million as his signing on fee on top of his regular salary, which has not been approved by the Turkish club and they have taken the deal off the table for now.
The 30-year-old might not be handed a new deal to stay back at Anfield, as Jurgen Klopp might look to rebuild his squad keeping in mind next season’s Champions League campaign, and will look to bring in a number of fresh faces to replace the ageing midfielder. However, if Liverpool let go of him, it should not be much of a problem for him to find a new club.
