Liverpool’s summer transfer window at the start of the season ended in a positive net-spent but most of the players that Klopp brought into the club have settled in well. The likes of Sadio Mane have become important parts of the first team and one player who is now indispensable is Dutch midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum.
The former Newcastle man has been used as a part of the midfield three at Anfield and has been in terrific form. However, his performances are now attracting interests from Europe as Spanish giants Real Madrid are knocking on the door. According to reports from Tuttomercatoweb, Zinedine Zidane is surprisingly eyeing the Liverpool man as a replacement for Eden Hazard if they miss out on the Belgian this summer.
Wijnaldum is a versatile player who can play as a part of the attack or in the midfield as he has shown this season. He has five goals and eight assists in all competitions this season and is one of the first names on the team sheet for Jurgen Klopp this season. He is contracted to the English club till 2021 but the Bernabeu outfit are looking at him to add to their squad if they miss out on their top transfer target Eden Hazard.
At 26, Wijnaldum is a first-choice player for club and country at the moment and is one of the most exciting players in Europe. He is a decent dribbler with excellent ability to hold on to the ball and playing in the middle of the park, he has improved on his passing and creative abilities.
He still needs to work on his defensive contributions but going ahead, he is as smooth as they get in the Premier League. He has great vision, that allows him to cut open even the best defences and playing regularly in the first team at Anfield, he will only grow as a player in the next few years.
Zinedine Zidane is determined to add some quality to his squad this summer and is set to let a few players leave this summer. Hazard is an option that can make them 10 times stronger but Wijnaldum is a player who will add solidity and versatility to the squad.
The likes of Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale are sure to start in four of the six outfield places and Wijnaldum will have to fight with a number of star players in the club for this position. Zidane might let a few players leave but even then, the Liverpool man will only act as a backup to first team stars at the club.
At his age, the 26-year old will want to play week in week out and will not be able to do so at the Bernabeu. A move to Real Madrid is a step in the right direction for Wijnaldum but it is not the best move if he wants to play every week. Do you think Liverpool should let Wijnaldum leave this summer?
