Jurgen Klopp and his squad are busy in Australia but that has not stopped the English papers from posting different stories linking the club with a number of players. The Reds are looking to add some quality to their squad in the summer transfer window and reports today claim that the Anfield outfit are now close to landing Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain this summer.
The versatile English midfielder has been at the Emirates since he was a teenager but he has never been able to cement a place in the first team. His ability to play in different positions has left him as a utility player and with just over two years left on his contract, he has decided to move on from the Emirates after a lack of progress this season.
He is a pacey midfielder with superb passing and even better dribbling abilities. He can hold on to the ball for long periods and is also adept at doing the dirty work, making him a useful player for most teams. He has been used extensively as a right wing-back by Wenger in recent times and though he has been productive, it looks like he does not want to continue playing there and is ready for a move.
The Sun claims that Liverpool are the front-runners for striking a £20m deal with the player and his club and at that price, the Ox is a steal.
With pace, precision and a smart head on his shoulder, the 23-year old is a perfect fit in Klopp’s system at Anfield. Capable of playing as a part of the midfield three or also as a winger if required, Oxlade-Chamberlain will get his chance to prove himself next season and if he can put in strong performances, he can turn into a superstar at Anfield.
He can play in numerous positions and along with Adam Lallana and Georginio Wijnaldum, will give Klopp three players who are capable of filling in wherever required. Most Liverpool fans want Klopp to be more ambitious but the Ox is a player who can improve more than one position in the squad.
He may not yet have reached his potential but at just 23, has enough time to grow into the star. Playing under Jurgen Klopp will only make it easy. The German tactician has always mentioned that he will only spend on players who fit in his style and there are very few players who can walk into a Jurgen Klopp squad like the Arsenal man can.
He may not be the big name that Liverpool fans are expecting, having quailed for the Champions League but it is players like him that can decide if Liverpool are the best in Europe or are just a club enjoying the gung-ho of European football.
