Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are now closer to a place in the Champions League and the manager is making plans for the next season already. He has been linked with a number of star players recently and one name that is doing the rounds today is Spanish star, Cesc Fabregas.
Having helped Chelsea to two league titles in three years, Fabregas has shown that he is still one of the best playmakers in the sport at the moment but he has fallen out of favour at the Stamford Bridge. Antonio Conte, the current manager has used Nemanja Matic and N Golo Kante as first choice this season and is planning to add another midfielder to his first team, which will push Fabregas even further down the pecking order. So is he the right man for Liverpool?
Having turned 30 just this Thursday, the midfielder has enough in his tank to help the Reds in their pursuit of success next season. Fabregas has now lifted the league title with every club he has played for and he might be the difference between Liverpool going all the way next season.
Known for his unbelievable passing skills, Fabregas is a player who can unlock even the best of the defences with the kick of a ball. His vision is exemplary and there are very few players in Europe at the moment who can match him.
He is also adept at making those late runs into the box, that make Liverpool even more dangerous in attack and adding Fabregas will only make them more productive. However, at 30, the former Barcelona and Arsenal man may not be able to keep up with the fast-paced nature that Klopp has brought to Anfield.
Liverpool and its midfield are one of the most pro-active in the league and the squad as a whole has covered more distance than any other club in Europe’s top flight this season. Fabregas will not help improve either. His movement on the ball is just exemplary but off the ball, Fabregas could well be a liability.
He is not afraid to do the dirty work, but at his age, Fabregas will not last all 90 minutes in Klopp’s system. He can be a super sub helping Liverpool add impetus late in every game and the reported £25m is not too bad a price to pay for his creativity.
It will be hard for Fabregas to find a club that plays him regularly in the first team but having played and won the title in two of the biggest clubs in England, he could be tempted to do the same at Anfield. Manchester United are also reportedly interested in his signature and if Klopp can lure Fabregas this summer, it will mean that they will push United into the market for yet another midfielder. But do you think the 30-year old is what Liverpool need this summer?
