It has been a relatively good season of Premier League football for Liverpool, with the Reds sitting in the third position and eyeing a place in next year’s Champions League. However, The Kop seem to be aware of the fact that playing against the world’s top teams will require them to build a team agile and aggressive enough to edge past their opponents.
Liverpool are in dire need of a good left back who can give them solidarity in the defence as well as make runs down the wing into the opposition half. Among a number of players, one who can become an asset in the future for the Reds is the Dutch defender Terence Kongolo. His brilliance at the left back position for his current club Feyenoord has made him a top transfer target for a number of clubs for the next season, and Liverpool’s arch rivals Everton is also one of them.
Terence Kongolo is a product of the Dutch club Feyenoord which he joined in 2002 as a 15-year old and has since gone nowhere else. His professional career started in the year 2010 and he made his debut in 2012 under the coaching of the then coach of Feyenoord Ronald Koeman. Reportedly, Ronald Koeman, who is now coaching the Premier League side Everton, is an admirer of Kongolo’s abilities and is looking to bring him into his team in the next season.
Kongolo has been a fascinating talent down the left-hand side for both his club and country. His darting runs down the left-hand side and his ability to cut into the opposition box makes him a force to reckon with. He also indulges into playing through passes and lethal crosses down the left-hand side to bring his teammates into the play and score goals.
Liverpool currently possesses a competitive defence but the left back position has posed a bit of a problem. The Reds regular left back Alberto Moreno has been out of favour under Jurgen Klopp for quite a long time now, with the German tactician playing the versatile midfielder James Milner as left back at present. It goes without saying that The Kop need someone who can give them enough sustainability at left back in the next season, and the Dutch youngster perfectly fits their bill.
However, Merseyside club and Liverpool’s derby adversaries Everton have reportedly been showing their interest in Kongolo for quite some time now. Kongolo, having played under the tutelage of Ronald Koeman in his early days, might also prefer a move to Goodison Park in the next season.
