Diego Costa is reportedly on the verge of making a move to Chinese Super League club Tianjin Quanjian. The Chinese club are reportedly ready to make the Chelsea striker the highest paid player in the Chinese league with reports emerging out that Costa could earn a whopping £620,000 a week. Although the West London club had already turned down a bid in January the Chinese outfit are very confident that this time they will not have to return with empty hands this time around.
Chelsea already sold Oscar to a club in China for a staggering amount and it seems another star is also on his way. Tianjin are ready to break the bank for Costa and are willing to pay as much as €90 million for the Spanish striker. Speculations mounted after he was seen with his agent Jorge Mendes on 28th April. He reportedly had a chat with his representative over a potential move.
Costa had a row with Antonio Conte a few months ago and the striker was even dropped in the next game. Since then rumours have started to flow in as the Spaniard has been heavily linked with the Chinese club. The 28-year old has been in stupendous form and has scored 19 goals in the English league this season. Chelsea are set to be the Premier League champions for the second time in three years and the credit largely goes to him.
However, if the Blues receive a substantial bid, they are very unlikely to stop him from leaving the club. Tianjian owner Shu Yuhui is very confident of signing the player,“We have agreed terms with two or three stars. The only issue that remains unresolved is reaching agreements over transfer fees,” he said in a recent interview.
Chelsea have already been linked with a few strikers in Alvaro Morata and Romelu Lukaku and Conte could use the cash from Costa’s sale to entice a player of his choice. The 28-year-old had a barren run of goals in the Premier League but ended his goal drought against Southampton recently.
Chelsea can achieve a double in this season if they beat the challenge of Arsenal in the FA Cup final. Things could change if some big money spenders like Paris Saint-Germain or Inter Milan make a lucrative offer for the Brazilian-born player. Costa’s form has dipped since Tianjin’s bid was rejected by the Blues in January. Costa also often complains about the West London weather and this could be another reason that he might say goodbye to Stamford Bridge.
