Leeds United had a sad ending to a thrilling season in the Championship as the Whites looked all set for a Premier League promotion after 13 years in England’s second-tier tournament. Under Garry Monk, the side looked lively for the first time in many years and Leeds would like to retain the momentum to use it as a springboard next season.
The historic club had a recent takeover last week with Andrea Radrizzani acquiring the remaining 50 percent stake from Massimo Cellino, who has been in news for controversies for so long. The Italian is hoping to take the club to new heights with a lot of revamping in the pipeline.
The recent shocking step-down of manager Garry Monk from the helm, despite many believing he would stay on for another year, would be a further complication for the club. The young English manager decided to tender his resignation before Leeds could extend his stay. Hence, the job for the new owner becomes all the more difficult though a move to bring in former Middlesbrough manager, Aitor Karanka, is doing the rounds.
With new funds infused in the transfer budget, a lot of big names are expected to arrive, which include Poland international Mateusz Klich, as per reports. The FC Twente midfielder has earned some rave reviews from the Dutch league this season despite his side not doing pretty well in their campaign. The 26-year-old has scored six goals and provided four assists this season.
He can play in an advanced role as well as from the deep midfield. Klich is known for his perfect passing and intelligent through balls from long-range. What makes him all the more valuable is his defensive attributes. The Tarnow born player reads the game beautifully and his perfection in tackling is unparalleled in the league.
An academy product of Polish side Cracovia Kraków, it was Bundesliga side VfL Wolfsburg who realised his talent and brought him in 2011. He was sent to Dutch side PEC Zwolle soon after and a successful stint there led to a permanent deal. He was impressive there and Wolfsburg bought him back a year later only to sell him to FC Kaiserslautern.
Twente bought him last summer and he has wasted no time in making a mark in Netherland. His contract with the club expires in 2019 and Leeds will not get him for cheap. But, the Polish will definitely be an upgrade for their midfield alongside the likes of Ronaldo Vieira and Eunan O’Kane.
