Southampton have been looking to revive their season throughout the current campaign in order to make a mark in the Premier League as a force to be reckoned with. However, a number of their top stars being injured made it really sluggish for the Saints to move ahead of their opponents in the top half of the table and they are compelled to keep themselves happy with an 8th position finish in the current season.
The Saints, are looking to come back strongly with a better side in the next season and have already started to look for players from various other clubs from the Premier League as well as Championship clubs. One such player, who is on the top of the priority list for the South Coast club is Chris Wood from Leeds United.
Wood has been at the top of his game throughout the current season in the Championship and has scored 30 goals for his present club Leeds United. He has been in prolific from the word go and has tried his level best to earn Leeds United a place back into the Premier League. However, late slip-ups in the tournament and the inability to make a cut into the playoffs kept the team from realising their dream to play in top flight football.
This has, reportedly, made the New Zealand international very much impatient and he is trying to find a way back into the Premier League. A number of clubs are aware of the fact and have been showing interest in the Leeds United striker to make him a part of their line-up in the next season.
Wood made his move from last season’s Premier League champions Leicester City into the Leeds United side in 2015 and has since been playing a very important role for his current club. Apart from scoring goals, he has also laid off a number of assists to make his teammates score goals from time to time.
Reportedly, other than Southampton, Premier League clubs like West Ham United and Stoke City are also in the hunt to rope in the New Zealand striker for an estimated amount of £15 million. They are quite confident that the striker’s prolific form will make them achieve a better season in terms of results.
However, it is still unclear whether his current club Leeds United would let the New Zealand striker go to another club. Gary Monk, the current club coach, has been much appreciative about the marksman and is looking forward to keeping him with the side in the next season.
