Manchester City has been under a tremendous amount of pressure from their management as well as fans to perform this season. Having brought in one of the best coaches in the world, Pep Guardiola from the German champions Bayern Munich last summer, expectations were sky high for The Citizens to achieve something monumental during the current season. However, none of them realised and the Premier League club was left empty handed both in domestic competitions as well as the Champions League.
A number of players might reportedly come under wrath from the current manager Pep Guardiola, as he plans to offload some of them in the next transfer window. Players like Gael Clichy, Willy Caballero and Pablo Zabaleta are out of contract after this season and might have to find a new club for themselves. However, Zabaleta has already announced his departure from Manchester City at the end of the current Premier League season.
One of the players, Yaya Toure, has been a player under fire during this season. Though the Ivory Coast international has not underperformed from a statistical point of view, his image to the team management and the fans has become a bit rebellious due to a stand-off that took place between the club and the player’s agent in the middle of the current season.
The ageing midfielder, now 33, was omitted from the Champions League squad last term which reportedly had agitated him to a great extent. Things got really out of hand when the Ivory Coast international’s agent said in a statement that the omission of the player from the Manchester City squad for the Champions League was an insult to him. That led to a standoff between the coach and the player, which was later resolved by a mutual understanding between the two.
Toure was apologetic in his Facebook statement that he published some days after the incident, saying that he was apologising on the behalf of his agent for the bitter words. The club coach Guardiola accepted the apology and said that only thing that has been keeping Toure from entering the team is his level of energy compared to that of the younger players of the team.
Guardiola has not been a great fan of the Ivory Coast international even when he was in his prime while playing under his coaching at Barcelona. He let him leave the club to join Manchester City. Though there has been no indication of anything similar happening so far, a chance of Toure going out of City is very much possible next season.
