Arsenal equalled things with Everton on the final day of the season with an outstanding win at Emirates that required the Gunners to play with 10 men for 80 minutes. Although that wasn’t enough for the North-London side to enter the top-four, it did bring their worst Premier League season under Arsene Wenger to a glorious end.
Here are how the Arsenal players fared against Everton-
Petr Cech (8.5/10)- He has been simply outlandish in the last few games for Arsenal and we hope he takes this momentum to the FA Cup final against his former club. Lukaku, Gueye and Valencia tested him all day and he was up for it every single time.
Hector Bellerin (9.5/10)- It is difficult to understand from where he gets such energy. After Laurent Koscielny got red carded in the 14th minute of the game, Arsenal shifted to back four, and his responsibility got tripled. But, it looks as if he can still relish a run against Baines.
Laurent Koscielny (2/10)- It’s a shame to have such an irresponsible display from the skipper and team’s best defender. He didn’t only jeopardise his team’s chances of winning today but has left Arsenal hugely short-handed at the back for FA Cup final.
Gabriel Paulista (9/10)- The Brazilian was undoubtedly the most committed player on the pitch today. He has hardly gotten any chance all season to prove his mettle and has been largely inconsistent. But, today was not that day. He kept Everton’s full attack silent single-handedly before that horrific knee injury. Hope he starts with us next season.
Per Mertesacker (7/10)- For someone who was called on the last day of the season to protect a slim lead despite not kicking the ball a single time in the whole year, he was good.
Rob Holding (8.5/10)- Impulsive, impeccable and definitely Arsenal’s future. Holding is definitely the only hope Arsenal would have now against Chelsea at Wembley next game. He was phenomenal.
Nacho Monreal (8.5/10)- Although he couldn’t catch up with Bellerin on the other flank, he was a constant thorn in Everton’s defence, and what brilliant game reading!
Granit Xhaka (8/10)- He could have got much more freedom if Arsenal didn’t have to worry about a lesser man all the time. Still got his passing boots going.
Aaron Ramsey (10/10)- He got his best game on the last day of the season. He didn’t sprint much drawing few calls from the crowd, but if he was saving all his energy for that Henry-ish curler right at the end, it was worth every ounce of breath.
Mesut Ozil (7.5/10)- Full marks for his world class ability to retain the ball and finding his way out of congested markings, but his finishing was pathetic especially the one-on-ones with Robles. Hope he does better against Chelsea.
Alexis Sanchez (9/10)- For most of the game, Arsenal had eight defenders in front of Cech with only the Chilean up front. And Everton found still it difficult to contain him. He looked equivalent to three and kept the pressure mounting. The outcome was the hamstring. Hope he plays against Chelsea.
Danny Welbeck (8.5/10)- Squandered many chances making look Joel Robles a real hero under the bar. But, other than that, his dribbling abilities and work rate brings him closest to Alexis Sanchez.
