West Ham United are exploring their options in the transfer market and have targeted RB Leipzig’s Davie Selke in an attempt to rejig their side. The London side had a decent season as they just finished outside of the top ten spots. The youngster moved to Leipzig from Werder Bremen back in 2015 and has established himself as a regular for the side.
He was one of the key players as the German side secured promotion where he scored 10 goals to fire the club to the top tier of the German League. But this season his play time has been substantially reduced due to a tactical switch and he has hardly been involved with the first team.
Despite this fact, Bilic is very keen to test the player in the English Premier League as he is aware of his playing style. Selke has played at various German youth levels and has earned accolades with his goals scoring antics.
The Hammers were also linked with the player in January as they were searching suitable reinforcements for their attacking department. Andy Carroll and Diafra Sakho have been misfiring throughout the season and Selke could be a long term solution at the London stadium.
Selke’s height will be an advantage should he join the Premier League side. Bilic would love to have a number of options at his disposal as there have been doubts lingering over Carroll and Sakho’s availability. Adding a youthful striker would give a whole lot of options to Bilic as there will be more competition from next season. Selke’s scoring rate for the German clubs has been very eye catching and he has also represented his country at the Olympics, gathering some serious exposure.
Michail Antonio has emerged as the top scorer for the Hammers this season as both Carroll and Sakho miserably flopped. They were sidelined for most of the campaign due to injuries and the need for a backup striker had been felt blatantly. Leipzig are open to let him move to another club and West Ham should embrace this opportunity to rope in the player.
The German club would demand a fee in the region of €7m which is very much affordable for the Hammers. A number of clubs are also tracking this player and Bilic needs to act fast in a bid to secure his services. The youngster had very little time on the pitch but has racked up four goals this season. His goal scoring potential has been very promising and Bilic could mould that in a completely new fashion.
