Harry Maguire is the latest player to be linked with Tottenham Hotspur. The Hull City defender has been the centre of attraction in the transfer market and the North London club are one of his possible suitors. Maguire has been excellent in the Hull City back line and has been the sole shining light for them.
Had the Tigers managed to stay afloat in the top tier of the English football, there would have been a slight possibility of Maguire staying at the KCOM Stadium. However, now that they have gotten relegated, there is a realistic chance of him leaving.
The defender has a price tag of £22m and that shouldn’t be a problem for Tottenham Hotspur who are looking to invest heavily in this summer. Spurs had an excellent season in the Premier League as they finished second just behind Chelsea.
Mauricio Pochettino’s tactics have earned accolades in this season as his free-flowing passing football has been the key to success in the Premier League. Spurs will be fighting in the Champions League next season and the Argentine gaffer thinks that an extra defender in the side would help him rotate his squad.
Everton are also exploring their options and are keeping an eye on the player. Ronald Koeman needs to add some potential option to his side as Phil Jagielka’s age is a worrying factor and he is no more the agile defender that he used to be.
Mason Holgate has been mostly filling in on Seamus Coleman’s shoes and with Coleman far from getting fit, Holgate is expected to deputise in the right back position next season. This situation makes the Toffees vulnerable at the back and Maguire is a pretty good option right now.
Spurs already have a settled team and there would is a little bit of tweak expected in the starting lineup. Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld have been constant in the Spurs defence and Pochettino will be hoping to use this pair in the coming season.
Eric Dier also has been used in the defence when the gaffer deployed a three-man back line so Maguire has to make sure that there would be a certain place in the starting lineup up there for him. The Hull City man made his intentions clear to remain in a top flight club and it should be enough for the North Londoners to pursue a move for the defender.
