The scenes at the American Express Community Stadium are buzzing and ecstatic as Brighton & Hove Albion celebrated an unprecedented uplift to the Premier League. Under the tutelage of Chris Hughton, the Seagulls created the necessary pedestal for themselves right from the inception of the league, went with the flow in a requisite manner, didn’t succumb and the result is the testament to their relentless toil throughout the campaign.
However, Hughton needs to bolster his squad in the summer and make the necessary ramifications or additions before they venture among the elite clubs of the country and face the animosity which the Premier League has on offer week and week out. It goes without saying that the first and foremost priority of Brighton & Hove Albion would be to refrain themselves from getting into the relegation fistfights and attempt to stay at the rendezvous zone.
Hughton is believed to be eyeing Norwich City’s Ryan Bennett to inject more resilience to his backline. The Canaries are reshaping their wage structure and looking forward to create a fresh team after the failure to deliver from the resources they had at their disposal in the 2016-17 campaign. An exodus is due in the summer as the Yellow Army have released many players of late after their failure to earn a playoff spot, including Bennett, whose contract expires in the summer and no wonder why the east Sussex-based club are eyeing for a shrewd deal by roping him into their ranks.
A central defender with a considerable reputation, Bennett has emerged through the youth ranks at Ipswich Town and Grimsby Town. Before signing for the Canaries, the Englishman used to ply his trade for Peterborough United and has accumulated adequate experience under his belt. Strong, technical and handsomely equipped with many traits which a modern day defender should have on offer, Bennett possesses a sense of solidity and has years of top quality football still left in him.
The 27-year-old had enjoyed a decent season in the English second division, making 33 appearances for Norwich City in which he mustered 0.8 tackles, 1.7 interceptions, 5.9 clearances and 0.7 blocks per game on an average. A move to Brighton would not only give him a new opportunity to enter into to test his mettle but will also enable Hughton in laying his hands on a defender who is seemingly likely to help his in accomplishing his tasks next season.
