Thibaut Courtois sounds optimistic with his current situation at Chelsea. The Belgian shot stopper is hoping for a new contract to be offered to him that he cannot refuse. Time to time, the 25-year-old has been linked with a move away from the Stamford Bridge to Real Madrid as the Spanish giants have been searching for a suitable keeper who could give severe competition to Keylor Navas.
Chelsea have been sweating over the future of their most prized asset. Courtois almost single-handedly has given Antonio Conte a great start to his maiden Premier League campaign as his 16 clean sheets in the league is one of the key factors behind Chelsea’s dominating season. His family still lives in Spain but that certainly is not in contention at this time. Before joining Chelsea he had three very successful stints with Atletico Madrid which caught the eye of Los Blancos.
Keylor Navas’ season has been plagued by a number of errors although the Costa Rican international has been the preferred choice in between the sticks. But Zidane will feel the need for a new keeper and has already made his intentions clear to Florentino Perez. Courtois currently takes home a whopping £100,000 a week but his Premier League counterpart David De Gea pockets a staggering £200,000 a week. Pay parity with Manchester United’s keeper would certainly make him reconsider his future.
There was a severe drop in his form last season as he was completely out of touch but he bounced back this season to fire Chelsea to their second title in three years. The Blues keeper has been a stubborn presence in the backline as his stupendous form made the task easy for the Chelsea defenders.
Conte knows that he does have one of the finest players in that position at his disposal and getting rid of him would be an absolute blunder. Courtois does have some flakes in his game but he has improved a lot from his earlier days and could emulate Petr Cech’s history at the club.
The Blues need to stabilise their team and Conte would definitely love to keep the core of his title winning side. The side has seen lots ups and downs and has had difficulties. But the way they have performed is very commendable. Especially Courtois’ performance has been very instrumental this season and Conte needs to make sure he stays at the club for at least for another season.
