Riyad Mahrez was one of the best players in the Premier League last season, scoring 14 goals and five assists for his club Leicester City, and played a pivotal role in helping the Foxes lift the trophy for the first time in their history. He was awarded the PFA Player of The Year as recognition for his brilliant show in the Premier League last term.
However, this season has not been as productive as the last one for the Algerian playmaker and his club as well. Apart from not being amongst the goals, the flair that was present in Mahrez’s playing style in the last season, seemed to be missing by far this term. It has also been the main reason behind Leicester’s dismal run in the present season. The Foxes have clawed back a bit from their problems with a series of wins in their last few matches, though.
That has, though, not been able to demean his value in the transfer market and some of the big clubs are interested in roping in the Algerian international for their line-up for the next season. Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur have been in contention to bag the player, although Arsenal has been looking the strongest to make Mahrez wear their colours in the present situation.
Reportedly, Arsenal has been on the trail of the Leicester City midfielder for quite a long time. Mahrez had also admitted the fact of holding talks with the North London club last season. However, Leicester City blocked the move to not let go of their prized possession.
The Algerian international, as per sources, is determined to leave the club in the next season after their form has dipped in the recent times. They also made it to this year’s Champions League quarter-final, bowing out to the Spanish club Atletico Madrid.
Reportedly, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is looking to replace his talismanic midfielder Mesut Ozil with Riyad Mahrez in the next season. As per sources, the North London club might lose their midfield maestro after the latter’s future is in contention for the next season. The German midfielder has not penned down a new contract with the Gunners over a rumoured demand for a salary hike in the next season.
The Leicester City midfielder has been under fire from the team management over his under-par performance in the recent season. Reportedly, The Foxes are looking to offload the Algerian international in the next season and are looking to bring in the Norway international Mohamed Elyounoussi as a potential replacement for their star midfielder.
