Arsenal’s season has been in major turmoil and there have been concerns that the Gunners might finish outside the top four for the first time in 21 years. Arsene Wenger’s future is hanging by a thread and amidst all this, the Gunners have been reportedly chasing Fulham prodigy Ryan Sessegnon.
The 16-year-old has been in demand with his scintillating performance for the Championship club, Fulham and a number of clubs with the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea are lining up bids for him. Basically, a left back, Sessegnon is known for his bombarding forward runs and he almost operates like a left winger. He has been likened with the likes of Gareth Bale who in his earlier career was a left back. But since then he has gone through various ups and downs and now he is established as one of the deadliest wingers in the world.
Fulham is guaranteed a playoff spot and could be plying their trade in the Premier League next season which might toughen Arsenal’s chances of signing him as Fulham will have the provision of affording him regular first-team chances in the top flight.
Arsenal currently have Nacho Monreal and Kieran Gibbs as the only two left backs. Gibbs has been pretty error prone this season and he could be shown the door in the summer while Monreal’s form has been not up to the mark this season. He is currently 31 and doesn’t have the pace to compete with the Premier League players. With Arsenal also linked with Schalke left back Sead Kolasinac, one could expect that Monreal is also on the verge of leaving the club.
Fulham have earlier rejected offers from the Gunners for the teenage starlet but if a substantial offer comes they might give it a thought. They also have the option to ink a loan option in the contract so that they could use the youngster for one more year which would be good for his development.
With the current situation, Arsenal are poised to be busy once the transfer window opens. A lot of transfers are going to happen and a number of players could be seen arriving at the Emirates. Arsenal need to launch a scathing bid in order to prevent the other clubs from signing him. Though if they do sign the player it is very unlikely that whoever would be the next coach, will unleash him directly on the Premier League as soon as he arrives.
